There are several cannabidiol-infused health and wellness products available in the market, however, there is no one product that is as popular as CBD oil. It can be used directly or as an active ingredient in products like edibles, ointments, capsules, and pills, etc. Before it is processed, it is obtained from hemp plant parts like flowers and buds in the form of crude oil, which contains all the compounds naturally found in the plant. In this article, we will focus on the different aspects of crude hemp oil; read on to know more about them.

What Is Crude Hemp Oil?

Crude hemp oil is the product obtained in the first step of CBD oil extraction. It is unrefined or in the raw form, and because of this, it contains cannabinoids like CBD, CBN, CBC, CBG, and THC, along with terpenes, flavonoids, and plant compounds like chlorophyll. This is further processed to get high-grade hemp CBD oil, isolate, distillates, and wax, etc. Also, it has a dark green color and is viscous due to the presence of waxes.

How Is Crude Hemp Oil Extracted?

Different extraction methods can be used for extracting crude hemp oil, and they are listed below:

CO2 Extraction: In this method of extraction, supercritical carbon dioxide is used as a solvent for extracting phytocannabinoids and phytochemicals from the hemp plant. The final product is nontoxic, and you get a high yield of the chosen cannabinoid, i.e. CBD.

Ethanol Extraction: In this method, ethanol is used as a solvent for extracting cannabinoids. After the phytochemicals seep into the ethanol, it is evaporated giving you the finished product, i.e. crude hemp oil.

Hydrocarbon Extraction: Here, hydrocarbons like butane or propane are used as solvents for extracting cannabinoids. However, this method is not popular as there is an increased risk for the presence of toxic residue in the finished product. Hence, compared to the previous two extraction methods, it is not safe.

The Two Variants Of Crude Hemp Oils

Full-Spectrum CBD: This type of extract contains the full spectrum of cannabinoids and terpenes naturally found in the hemp plant. The entourage effect of CBD that improves the therapeutic effects makes it popular among users.

Broad-Spectrum CBD: This is a refined form of full-spectrum CBD extract; this is done to remove trace amounts of psychotropic THC. Liquid chromatography at low temperatures eliminates THC while retaining the other cannabinoids.

These are some of the important points that you must know about crude hemp oil, and we hope that the details shared above were useful for you.
