NIHC is another trade group that becomes involved in hemp CBD test- and labeling-related standards. The National Industrial Hemp Council announced that it would work with CBD industry players to launch a new pilot program, which will establish standards for not only hemp product testing but also CBD testing labs. For the uninitiated, CBD manufacturers send a sample of their products to third-party laboratories for testing to confirm product content, purity, and safety.

Those who participate in the program can label CBD goods with the help of NIHC. This can confirm the accuracy of CBD labeling, which will not only set a standard for components but also boost customer confidence in the products. It is worth noting that customers already have a lot of confidence in CBD products.

NIHC CEO and President Patrick Atagi stated that since the Farm Bill came into law in 2018, customers have been expecting the Food and Drug Administration to take action on cannabidiol. Atagi also said that with no FDA guidance, NIHC would step up to form not just cannabidiol testing standards but also labeling protocols. The trade group believes that the standards and the protocols will improve customer safety and keep the right of each customer to know CBD information.

The trade group wants to set up a consistent and accurate testing regime as well as comprehensive certification specialized in the integrity of CBD product labeling.

The trade group is communicating with testing labs, testing companies, and TPV (third-party verification) companies for a new program to test the safety profile and potency of Phytocannabinoids.

A key aspect of that program will involve third-party certification groups to confirm that laboratories are acting as per testing protocols, calibrating their tools, and executing tests through properly trained professionals.

The consumer product and food testing company known as Food Safety Net Services (FSNS) is going to lead the initiative. NIHC spokesperson Barry Carpenter stated that the initiative would bring peace to the customer and value to this marketplace with transparent and reliable information on CBD items. For your information, Carpenter is a National Industrial Hemp Council Board member and Standards Committee chairperson as well as an advisor for client relations and regulatory affairs for FSNS.

Further, NIHC plans on making international standards organizations a part of the said program, which will provide enrolment for cannabidiol companies and labs.
